* “Draft order will go by best records.
In the case of two teams having the same record, the tiebreaker will be broken first by which team went further in the playoffs and secondly by point differential. The championship teams will always close out the order with the runner-up being 23rd, and the champion going last.”
ASFLC - July
Men,
It is that time of year again!!
The strat-o-matic previews are on the strat website and you can pre-order your new strat game now. The ASFLC is full with 24 owners and a few owners on a waiting list. We are excited to see our league continue and hopefully this year will be better than ever.
We currently have 3 new owners:
Jeff Coulter - Florida
Nelson Jones - Illinois
Gary Lemaster - Ohio
Remember that we use this "blog" for our 18 round (3 week) draft in September.
Also, my brother and I will be proposing a rule change in the next couple of weeks. We will submit to you the 2 options and than ask for a league-wide owners vote. My brother and I will only vote in the case of a tie from the other 22 owners.
But for now, enjoy a little more time off!!

San Fran - AFC Champs!
Congratulations to San Fran led by Jason Bergmann as they repeat as AFC Champs and return to the Super Bowl. San Fran returns after defeating the Mashers in a low scoring defensive struggle, 14-5. The Mashers scored first on a safety and then added a field goal to take a 5-0 lead. But on the next play San Fran ran the kickoff back for a touchdown and took the lead 7-5. It stayed 7-5 most of the way until Willie Parker scored from 3 yards out. Once S.F went up 14-5, the Mashers started turning the ball over and never did get any offense generated. The Mashers finish for the second year in a row as AFC runner-ups while S.F finds themselves right back in the same place they were a year ago. This year they will try and defeat last year's Super Bowl Champion DaGints.

Oklahoma, led by Bill Hart is to be congratulated on a great turnaround. Oklahoma went from worst to first in their division and made it all the way to the Championship Game.
DaGints will play the winner of the AFC Championship Game between the Mashers and San Francisco.

Wildcard Week
We have what appears to be 4 good matchups for Wildcard Week!
In the AFC we have:
Pecatonica (7-9) at Waunakee (11-5)
This is a rematch of an earlier game this year. It was a low scoring affair with Waunakee winning 13-3. Neither team did alot on offense but that was early in the year. Expect this game to be much higher scoring. Waunakee has put up over 480 points this season, averaging 30 a game under first year head coach Dale Ripley. Waunakee (last year's Apex) won last year's wild card game vs. New York before losing a close divisional playoff game to the Mashers. Pecatonica surprisingly beat Vegas in week 16 to earn the final playoff spot. Pecatonica (last year's Antioch) did not make the playoffs a year ago.
Eau Claire (7-9) at Wisconsin (10-6)
This is also a rematch between two division teams. They just played each other in week 14 and Wisconsin won a low scoring game. Earlier this season Wisconsin won their other matchup. Wisconsin won both games by 7 points. Wisconsin has also put up approximately 30 points per game. Both Wisconsin and Eau Claire make the playoffs for the third straight year. Eau Claire and Wisconsin also played in last year's wildcard game with Wisconsin winning that game as well. Should be a good game between 2 division opponent coaches (Bob Stooges and Steve Brandvold) who know each other well.
In the NFC we have:
Rochester (9-7) at Chatham (9-7)
This is also a rematch from a game earlier this season. Rochester won that shootout over Chatham 36-30. Rochester, coached by Kenny Oberg, turned their season around after a 1-5 start. Last year Rochester won their wild-card game against Ann Arbor before losing a heartbreaker in the divisional playoff round to Bloomington. Chatham (last year's Seaside) had double digit losses and didnt come close to making the playoffs. This has been a good, quick turnaround by first year coach Sean Crawford. Should be another exciting high scoring affair.
Norfolk (9-7) at Darien (9-7)
This is the only game of the week that isnt a rematch from earlier in the season. Both teams finished 2nd in their divisions with a 9-7 record. Darien did not make the playoffs one year ago and have comeback nicely under head coach Ed Freimuth. Norfolk (last year's Guinness) missed last year's playoffs even though they had a solid 10-6 record. Both teams have the ability to put up alot of points and yet have solid defenses. Norfolk's coach George Torres has done a nice job in his first year. This should be another exciting game!
Good luck guys and looking forward to hearing the results!
In the AFC we have:
Pecatonica (7-9) at Waunakee (11-5)

ASFLC Playoffs
Everyone should have received the "final" league manager. After doing all the tiebreaker scenarios, here is how the playoffs look:
NFC
#1 seed - DaGints (won NFC East) 12-4
#2 seed - Oklahoma (won NFC Central) 11-5
#3 seed - Chatham (won NFC West) 9-7
#4 seed - Darien 9-7
#5 seed - Norfolk 9-7
#6 seed - Rochester 9-7
** Tiebreakers
The first 3 seeds were easy because they each won their division and had different records.
The 4-5-6 seeds all had the same records. According to NFL.com, if 2 of the teams are in the same division, you first find out which team earned 2nd place in their division. So, since Norfolk beat Rochester both times. Norfolk is awarded 2nd place in the division and Rochester is 3rd place in the NFC east. So, the 4th seed is only between Darien and Norfolk. The first step is head to head between the 2 teams. since they did not play, we move to the second step which is conference record. Darien's conference record was 7-5. Norfolk's conference record was 6-6. Therefore, Darien is awarded the 4th seed and Norfolk the 5th with Rochester taking the final 6th seed.
AFC
#1 seed - San Fran (won AFC west) 13-3
#2 seed - Mashers (won AFC central) 11-5
#3 seed - Waunakee (won AFC east) 11-5
#4 seed - Wisconsin 10-6
#5 seed - Eau Claire 7-9
#6 seed - Pecatonica 7-9
** Tiebreakers
This was obviously much more difficult. The #1 seed was easy with San Fran having the best record. The Mashers take the number 2 seed because of their overtime victory earlier in the season versus Waunakee. So, Waunakee then takes the 3rd seed. Wisconsin is the best record of all the wild-card teams so they take the 4th seed.
Now it gets really tricky. There were 4 teams with a 7-9 record. According to NFL.com the first thing we do is deal with any 2 teams who are in the same division. Which was Pecatonica and Vegas. In their head to head matchups, Pecatonica beat Vegas both times. This takes Vegas out of the tiebreaker. Now the three remaining teams (Long Island, Eau Claire, Pecatonica) go head to head to head. If any team won against both of the other opponents, then they would get the next seed. So the #5 seed goes to Eau Claire since they beat both Long Island and Pecatonica. So, the 6th seed comes down to Long Island or Pecatonica. We go back to head to head and Pecatonica beat Long Island, therefore eliminating Long Island and giving Pecatonica the #6th seed.
I hope this is clear. (You can check all the tiebreaker scenarios with the "tiebreaker rules" we sent out a few weeks ago.
So, here are the playoff matchups:
NFC Wildcard
Rochester (9-7) at Chatham (9-7)
Norfolk (9-7) at Darien (9-7)
DaGints and Oklahoma - byes
AFC Wildcard
Pecatonica (7-9) at Waunakee (11-5)
Eau Claire (7-9) at Wisconsin (10-6)
San Fran and Mashers - byes
I will send out the files for these games on Tuesday. You will then have 1 week to play your games.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at jcroyts@hotmail.com or jdc1169@aol.com
Thanks

Week 8 Chatham 30 Cincy 14
This one was against the computer... second time I've faced the computer coach and this time with better results. Mike Anderson was big with more than 120 yards rushing and Charlie Frye filled in for Boller and looked good going 20 for 28 with a TD. TJ Houshmanzadeh also had a big day.
Chatham is 4-4... winning two straight after a 3 game losing skid.

Week 6 Finals
Huntsville 28
Chatham 24
Huntsville pressured the Coyotes all day, even getting a safety in the final quarter. But with :15 left, Kyle Boller hit Patrick Crayton over the middle in a vacated flat and he dashed over 30 yards for the score. HOWEVER... a holding penalty on Chatham called it back and preserved the win for the Ravens. Julius Jones had 142 yards rushing for the Coyotes, but Steven Jackson of Huntsville managed 132 yards and Donovan McNabb threw for 293. Chatham falls to 2-4.

Roster moves
I thought we were only allowed one roster move per "cycle"? I'm seeing multiple moves here and from what I remember the limit was one cycle. Wasn't it something like one move every 3 weeks or something like that?

Norfolk defeats Rochester 37-21
The Norfolk Neptunes gained their first win in week 3 by defeating the Rochester Absolut Goofs 37-21 at Foreman Field in Norfolk Va.
Two critical turnovers late in the first quarter by the Goofs proved to be the difference as Norfolk bolted to a 14-0 lead and never really looked back.
Tiki Barber (24 rushes-42 yards) fumbled at the Rochester 13 and DT Keith Traylor recovered and returned it to the 10. Norfolk punches it in on a 5yd Steve McNair to Warrick Dunn pass.
On Rochester's next drive, Eli Manning (was picked off by Dunta Robinson and the latter returned the ball 25 yards to the Rochester 10. McNair hit FB Tony Richardson with an 8 yard pass. Phil Dawson added the point after to make it 14-0.
The Neptunes got up 31-6 in the third before Rochester was able to make up ground for the final margin.
Eli Manning was 15-32 for 200 yds 1 TD/1 INT.
Steve McNair was 16-31 for 155 yds and 2 TD.
Warrick Dunn was the leading rusher with 74 yd on 11 carries.
Phil Dawson had 4xps and 3 FG (44,41,28).
Kenny Oberg hosted as I was having troubles hosting the game. Better luck to Ken next time as I think luck did play a huge part of this ball game

San Diego Rips Chatham 45-19 Week 2
Curtis blew open a close game in the second half, outscoring the Coyotes 45-19. Solid play from Shaun Alexander (20-114) and Drew Bledsoe (16-22-273-2) helped ice it. Ty Law picked off Kyle Boller in the closing seconds and ran it back 98 yards for the final score.
Boller was forced to throw in the second half and wound up 27-46-279-1 with a pair of picks. Chatham actually held the ball 10 minutes longer but San Diego's bend but don't break defense did the job. Chatham's top draft pick, Lofa Tatupu, was injured for half the game and wound up with only 3 tackles.
San Diego is 2-0. Chatham 0-1 has yet to play its week 1 game.

Men,
I just wanted to give you an update of what has been happening in our league thus far:
Week 1 games played so far:
Mashers 37, Wisconsin 24
Cincy 21, Rochester 18
Ann Arbor 27, Bloomington 24
San Diego 33, Tustin 13
and the game of the week so far:
Super Bowl Champion DaGints 27,
Division Rival Norfolk 24
This game came down to a field goal with :15 seconds left tied at 24. Staring overtime in the face after missing (2) 2-9 field goals earlier in the game, Olindo Mare hit the game winning field goal. Even with :08 seconds left, DaGints head coach John Croyts still had to make a difficult decision. Kick deep and give Ladell Betts a "chance" to return. Betts has a touchdown on 2. Or to kick an onside kick and give McNair a chance for a hail mary - or the possibility of Warrick Dunn around the end and "long gain". Coach Croyts chose to kick the onsider with the hopes of recovering it and "taking a knee". No such luck! Norfolk recovered at his own 45 and decided for one more hail mary. He had already hit a "long gain" on the roll of 10 on his long pass card called "right" with 3:30 to go - for a 64 yard touchdown pass to Muhsin Muhammed and then converted a 2 point conversion to tie the game at 24. McNair threw one more "long pass" and hit the roll of 9 on his card, which is 28 yards. One "roll" away from another "long gain". And the game ended with Norfolk in field goal position but no time on the clock!!
I thought I would include the write up on this from the two head coaches:
(George of Norfolk)
Hey guys, what an exciting game John and I had. What a wonderful experience (even in losing). We finished after 2am. I went to work on fumes yesterday but what a rush. After taking a 16-10 lead, I couldn't stop Brady and the boys in the 4th quarter, but I was shocked when McNair hit Muhammad with that 64 yard bomb and the two-pointer to tie at 24 with over three minutes left. My inexperience with clock management did me in along with Brady methodically moving DaGints down the field for the game winner with :08 left. I gotta lot to learn about the game and handling my defense, but this is great stuff!! This is about as good as it gets!! I am totally stoked about the game, the league and the netplay!! Thanks guys and good luck John with your (high school) team in its playoffs. I just felt lucky to compete with you in the strat game. Very gratifying experience.
(John of DaGints)
George,
What a great email!!!...I thought you called a great game...If you get any better ... look out!!!...
It was a great game...a lot of close calls....things that could have went either way....
And I have to say, I love your enthusiasm.....Jerry and I feel the same way....This league stuff is awesome....we played the board game vs each other (and two brothers) for years......nothing like this netplay stuff!!!!
Good Luck the rest of the year!
Guys, this is what makes this league great!!
Keep the games coming!! Be sure and email your opponents. If your opponent emails you, be sure and email back asap to let them know you received it and what your intentions are in scheduling the game. There is nothing worse than getting "no response"!!
Looking forward to seeing many more "post game files" this coming week!!

Men,
Any roster moves or trades can be announced by posting them on the blog as of 8:00 am eastern Wednesday, October 4th. All rosters have been finished within the league manager. We are now prepared for any cuts, trades, or acquisitions. Please look over your individual rosters and check the roster limitations. For example: if the limitations say that you must have at least "4" olb's and "2" ilb's and you only have 5 lb's total, then you must make a move to get one more lb. Also, we need to know asap what type of defense you are planning on playing - 3-4 or 4-3. Please email me at jcroyts@hotmail.com with whether your team is playing 3-4 or 4-3. Thanks!
