ASFLC Championship Games

The Championship Games are set:

AFC:

Philadelphia at Mashers

NFC:

Memphis at Madison

Madison upsets DaGints

Both number 1 and 2 seeds of the NFC have been knocked off by NFC Central playoff teams. First, Memphis upset the #1 seed Chatham and now Madison defeats the #2 seed DaGints. Madison does it with an impressive defensive performance and another breakaway run from Jamaal Charles. After both teams trading early field goals, the DaGints scored the first touchdown when Felix Jones ran 46 yds for a TD. Madison would put up one more field goal before the half to trim the DaGints lead to 10-6. It was late in the 3rd qtr when the play of the game happened. Madison's Jamaal Charles broke loose and raced 48 yds for the touchdown score to give Madison a 13-10 advantage. The Dagints would move the football (406 yds of offense) but could not capitalize with any points. Their final attempt came with 3:18 left when Rob Bironas missed a 50 yd field goal. DaGints ran the football well (248 yards on 30 carries) but Madison had Tom Brady bottled up for most of the game. For the most part, Jamaal Charles was held in check by the DaGints defense except for one big run which made the difference in the game. Congratulations to John Croyts on another impressive season. The Dagints like Orange County have never missed the playoffs or not won the NFC East division!

Madison King Cobras now hosts the NFC Championship game versus division rival Memphis Mafia. This sets up a game between two 1st year coaches in our league - congratulations to Jeff Smith and Mike Capriotti.

Philadelphia outlasts Orange County in Overtime!

In an amazing divisional playoff game, Philadelphia defeats Orange County 20-14 in overtime on a 3yd touchdown run by Ronnie Brown with 7:48 remaining in the extra period. Philadelphia struck first with a 7-0 lead on a Jerome Harrison 8yd run. After a fumbled punt by Jim Leonhard, Orange County tied the score on a 9yd pass to Jeremy Maclin from Jason Campbell. After a 7-7 halftime score, Philadelphia had another costly turnover. Brett Favre threw an interception to Ike Taylor and shortly thereafter Campbell found Antonio Gates for a 13yd touchdown. Philly would tie it back up at 14 late in the 3rd qtr when Favre found Roy Williams on an 8yd strike. Each team had some opportunities to score in the final period, but to no avail. Philadelphia's defense was able to hold down Maurice Jones-Drew while Orange County was able to bottle up Brett Favre. Congrats to Rousel Glaciano on another fine season. Glaciano's Orange County Jets (formerly San Francisco with Jason Bergmann as head coach) continue an amazing streak of winning their respective division every year and never missing the playoffs in the history of the ASFLC.

Philadelphia will now travel to the Mashers for the AFC Championship Game.

Memphis upsets Chatham

Memphis jumped out to a 14-0 lead over Chatham without their offense putting up a point. First it was special teams - a 69 yd punt return by Josh Cribbs gave Memphis a 7-0 lead. Then it was defense - on Chatham's next possession Philip Rivers threw an interception to Ed Reed - and we all know where this is going - to the house! Reed returned it 65 yds for a TD and Memphis was up 14-0. Chatham regrouped from the two big plays and after a Philip Rivers to Coles touchdown and an A.P rushing touchdown the game was tied back up at 14. Memphis managed to get their first offensive touchdown on the board, a Roethlisberger to Jonathan Stewart touchdown pass right before the half to regain the lead at 21-14. The next score would not come till late in the 3rd and again it would be Memphis qb Big Ben hooking up with Jonathan Stewart. John Kasey would tack on two field goals and Memphis goes on to win 34-14. The #1 seed Chatham was done in by 5 fumbles (2 lost fumbles) and 3 interceptions by Philip Rivers. Congratulations to Sean Crawford on a great record this season. Memphis will await the winner of Dagints - Madison to see who they will play in the NFC Championship Game.

Mashers defeat Waunakee

The Mashers move on to the AFC Championship game after defeating Waunakee 34-20. The Mashers jumped out to a 10-0 lead only to watch Waunakee score the next 13 points. Drew Brees uncharacteristically threw 3 interceptions in the first half - one that was returned for a touchdown to give Chris Crocker the lead. Mashers reclaimed the lead 17-13 on a 61 yd strike to Derrick Mason, his second touchdown catch. Waunakee went back out on front 20-17 on the very next possession when surprise starter Matt Moore hooked up with Randy Moss from 23 yards out. The Mashers tied the game at 20 on a Sebastian Janikowski field goal. After forcing Waunakee to punt the Mashers put together a drive that culminated in a 39yd touchdown pass to Ray Rice in which he did most of the work after the catch. On the very next possession Matt Moore threw an interception to reserve safety Chris Clemons. The Mashers again were able to capitalize with a Ray Rice touchdown run from 11yds out. Waunakee continued to fight but the Mashers were able to hold them off for a 34-20 victory.

The Mashers will await the winner of the Philadelphia - Orange County matchup.

Congratulations on another strong season from Dale Ripley. He called a great game and didnt go down without a fight!

Madison defeats Norfolk

Wildcard Game lives up to its name...wild! Madison defeats Norfolk 35-33. Norfolk jumps out to a 21-7 lead and appeared to go into halftime with a commanding lead when Jamaal Charles busts a 67yd td run. Norfolk adds a fg right to go up 24-14 at halftime. Madison scores the next two touchdowns to take a 28-24 lead. After Norfolk kicks a fg to trim the lead to 1 (28-27), Madison turns disaster into a miracle. On 3rd down, Kyle Orton is sacked by Ray Edwards and fumbles but Madison's offensive lineman Dylan Gandy picks up the ball and "dances" 26 yds into the end zone. With the extra point, Madison goes up 8. Norfolk responds by moving right down the field and pulling within two when Tony Romo hits Desean Jackson for a 23 yd td pass. With 6:00 min remaining, Norfolk goes for the 2pt conversion to tie it up but Madison is able to keep Tony Romo out of the endzone. Madison then puts together a game clinching drive and wins this wildcard game 35-33.

Madison continues their playoff success and moves on to the play the DaGints in the divisional round and Memphis travels to play Chatham.

Congratulations to Norfolk coach George Torres after a tough loss! Torres turned the Neptunes around from a 2-14 season last year and an 0-4 start to this season!

Waunakee over Wisconsin 23-21

In an AFC wilcard matchup that included 12-4 Wisconsin and 10-6 Waunakee, the Wildcats come out on top 23-21. Waunakee scored twice in the first quarter to jump out to a 14-0 lead. Wisconsin pulled it to 20-14 early in the 4th qtr behind a Steven Jackson touchdown run. Late in the game with Wisconsin still trailing 20-14, the Stooges were hurt by a fumble on a punt return by Chris Carr that gave Waunakee a chance to spread the lead to two scores. Wisconsin scored late to pull within two but there was too little time remaining. Neither Kurt Warner or Peyton Manning had great games but Warner was able to stay away from the mistakes while Manning threw 3 costly interceptions. The longest pass in the game was only 17 yards until Peyton Manning hooked up with Sam Aiken for a 61 yd strike with just :52 remaining in the game. Congratulations to Bill Ferguson on a great season in his first season after moving from Madison to Wisconsin. Waunakee will now travel to the Mashers in a rematch of last season's AFC Championship Game.
